Mr. Answer

Installation

Question

Answer
My car is not very big and I think there´s no space to install a Navigation System properly... The NVE-N055PV is not bigger than a regular car stereo deck and fits anywhere in the car - even in the DIN-slot of your dashboard!
I think that this new technology is too complicated to be installed in my rather dated vehicle - all these wires and blackboxes... Alpine´s Car Navi consists of the main unit with a video link unit, an antenna and the remote control - there are no big blackboxes or gyro-sensor boxes for hideaway or trunk installation!
I heard from a friend that you have to remove the wheels and glue some magnetic sensors for measuring the mileage... Alpine´s Car Navi picks up the speed pulse signal electronically - simply by connecting it with a single cable!
I don´t want to have an antenna on the roof or the trunk for GPS-signals - they will steal or dammage it... Alpine´s GPS receiver and antenna are ultra sensitive - the antenna can be placed on top of the shelf, dashboard or in some cases even invisible under the dashboard!
I would rather prefer to hide my Navigation System than to install it in the dashboard... You can install Alpine´s Car Navi in the same slot like your car stereo deck but thanks to its 1-DIN size you are always free to install it in the glovebox, under seat or in the trunk!

Conclusion

1-DIN size - same as regular Radiocassette-Player or CD-Tuner and also as easy to install - perfect for 2-DIN combo with car stereo deck and Car Navi!

Built-in Gyro-Sensor with Piezo crystals and 100% magnetic field resistance!

Electronic speed pulse picked up directly from the car without extra magnets!

Ultra-sensitive GPS-receiver and antenna for almost invisible antenna installation!

Full operation by remote control even with hidden Car Navi installation!

Route Guidance...

Question

Answer
I think it is very difficult to read a map on such a small display and this can be very dangerous while driving... In fact, you don´t need to „read“ the map while driving - Alpine´s voice guidance is excellent and that precise that you don´t need to look at the screen in and enjoy a relaxed guidance without beeing distracted from the traffic!
But what is the screen good for and why does it still show maps and arrows? The screen is required for destination input and other settings - but also you are able to follow your route on a digital map - you always know where you are and how far to go... to your destination... the next gas station... - anytime!
And why do you have so many different display modes? While the map mode gives you the traditional view on a map, the basic arrow mode informs you about your journey and the upcoming manouvers. Alpine´s unique intersection zoom supports the voice guidance if complicated intersections give you an additional driving challenge, such as driving in Paris around the Arc de Triomphe...

Conclusion

Alpine´s high quality precision voice guidance for stress-free navigation even under the most severe traffic conditions or complicated intersections!

Arrow mode informs clearly about journey-status and imminent landmarks on motorways such as parkings, petrol stations and exits ahead (Motorway mode). Only the most essential information is displaid for safe driving without distraction!

Intersection zoom with automatic close-up when approaching the junction - realistic reproduction of the junction ahead supports voice guidance and helps the
driver staying on the selected route!

Flexibility

Question

Answer
I don´t like to have a lot of separate units working in my car that do not belong together - I rather like to stick to one brand because of the reliability and because of servicing. You can operate Alpine´s Car Navi independently but if you prefer an integrated solution, I recommend you the integration into an Ai-Net system with centralized operation!
What about later - can I upgrade the system by additional functions and sources? You can upgrade your Car Navi anytime by an Alpine Car TV-Tuner and watch television when you prefer to relax. Also, all Alpine LCD-monitors feature additional AV-Inputs so that you can connect your camcorder for example and watch your homevideo tapes. And take Alpine´s Video CD-Changer and both listen to audio CD´s and watch movies from a Video Disc or CD-i.
What about future media like DVD or so? Alpine always has been a trendsetter and had an eye on the latest technology - this is why in the future Alpine will also offer an In-car DVD-player for watching high resolution DVD movies in your car paired with the impressive digital sound of DVD!

Conclusion

Car Navi - to be used independently with a free LCD-monitor or integrated into an Ai-Net system with a Mobile Media Station (IVA-M700R, CVA-1005R/1000R)!

Additional A/V-inputs for easy upgrading of additional external video sources!

Multiple visual components available for system expansion such as TV-Tuner, Video CD-Changer and in the future also DVD-player!

One brand/One system strategy for hassle-free and reliable system operation with highest possible reliability!

Anti-Theft...

Question

Answer
I´m afraid of loosing my equipment when I think of thiefs braking into my car after seeing all the expensive equipment inside! Your concerns are reasonable - and for preventing this, Alpine´s Car Navi is the smallest Car Navi in the market. Even made for in-dash installation with its 1-DIN format it is also extremely small for a hidden installation if theft risk is too high!
Okay, I understand this for the main unit but what about the monitors? They are very visible in the car, also for thieves! If security is a big issue you should select Alpine´s TME-M006SP which can be upgraded by the quick release kit KTE-600V - with this accessory you can detach your monitor as easy as you detach the front panel of your radio!
But what about if I use a Mobile Media Station instead of a free monitor? Integration into an Ai-Net system using a Mobile Media Station also features anti-theft measures: after sliding in. the Mobile Media Station looks very plain with only a few knobs and does not appear like an expensive unit worth stealing. Additionally, it includes a special front panel cover hiding its contents effectively behind it.

Conclusion

1-DIN size of main unit allows installation anywhere in the car and - if anti theft risk is high - even in hidden places in the car!

TME-M006SP can be upgraded with a quick-release bracket for easy detaching without disconnecting cables and connectors when leaving the car!

Mobile Media Stations feature a „quiet“, passive and undetectable design when slided in plus a separate cover that hides the front completely!

Future-ready....

Question

Answer

Navigation is still a new business and I am afraid of buying a piece of technology that is not up to date the next years!

While the navigation business in Europe is still very young, it is not worldwide. Most of the European makers only have a few years experience while Alpine worldwide has almost 15 years experience in the navigation business! Alpine´s Car Navi is not a newcomer but the worldwide 6th generation of Car Navi systems and therefore a very mature and reliable product!
Look at the computer business - I bought last year a „high speed“ Pentium 200 and this year already my computer is dated when looking at 400 MHz processors being the standard! Alpine´s Car Navi is using Flash-ROM memory technology and a 32-Bit architecture. Essential system data are stored in a Flash ROM, quickly accessible and erasable by new data when you upgrade your system by inserting a new update CD-ROM! Getting a new NAVI is therefore just inserting a new CD-ROM away...!

Conclusion

15 years experience worldwide ensure excellent Know How and experience in the navigation business!

6th generation of Car Navi worldwide means highest reliability and maturity of the product!

Flash ROM includes the operating system for easy system upgrade by inserting a new CD-ROM with updated operating system!

Travelling abroad...

Question

Answer
What about travelling abroad? Are there any maps available for foreign countries? Alpine is continously expanding the country maps and alreday now you have the choice between German, English, Italian, French, Dutch, Belgium, Luxemburg, Swiss, Austrian and Spanish Maps. (Benelux countries on one map / Italy, Switzerland and Austria on one map)
But if I insert for example a French CD-ROM, will I have to read French display indications and listen to French voice guidance? Alpine´s Car Navi and the CD-ROM contain the major 4 languages so that you can insert a foreign country´s CD-ROM and still read and listen to display and voice guidance in your language - like you have never left your country!
And each time I cross the border, I have to program the system from the beginning which I think is not very convenient? Alpine´s crossborder function enables you to set a destination in a foreign country even you operate the system with your local map. And when you arrive at the border, you simply replace the CD-ROM and the system automatically traces the route to your final destination!

Conclusion

Extensive choice of Map CD-ROMs available for Germany, UK, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxemburg and Spain (Benelux countries on one map / Italy, Switzerland and Austria on one map)

4 languages (D, GB, F, I) available on any CD-ROM - both for display and voice! (Benelux map with Dutch language - NL, D, F, GB and Spanish map with Spanish language - E, F, D, GB)

Crossborder setting function allows setting a destination in a foreign country with swapping the CD-ROM when arriving at the border!

Unexpected situations

Question

Answer
What happens if I miss the route indicated by the system - do I have to make a U-turn? The system automatically detects when you leave the proposed route and re-routes you within a few seconds by calculating very quickly an alternative route - so fast that you almost do not notice that you´ve been re-routed!
Provided I´m in a traffic jam or an accident happened in front and I have not left my route yet but would like to try it in order to escape....? Simply push the „Route“ button on your remote control and the system proposes you an alternate route!
Imagine I am driving on a highway or a foreign city and I urgently need to refill my car as I am running out of gas - can the system help in such a case? Alpine has the Local Point function which enables you to select the nearest points of a desired category- you can select for example „gas stations“ and the Car Navi will immediately show you the nearest gas station 10km around with distance and direction information! Another push on the button and the gas station is selected as a waypoint and your trip has been immediately re-routed!

Conclusion

High speed data processing guarantees very fast re-routing within a few seconds - either on request or automatically as soon as leaving the calculated route!

Local Point feature informs at the push of a button about the nearest destinations around of the selected category such as gas stations, parkings, hospitals etc. plus the option to include the local point into the calculated route as a waypoint!

Memory and Personalization...

Question

Answer
I hope that there is a list where I can store my favourite destinations - it would be very convenient not to input the destination every time again! Alpine´s Car Navi has 100 memory points that you can easilly memorize and even more - you can add icons to your memory point or store telephone numbers and other information with it.
Can I also store the locations of the stationary radar speed-control in the system? Of course you can - plus you can mark it as a „warning point“ or a „point to avoid“ - as a warning point, you can set the direction to be warned and will be alarmed with a beep when approaching this point while the avoid point will exclude this area when calculating your next route and this point should be on the way to your destination!
I regularly visit my customers and would like to program a kind of visit plan for my next 4 or 5 customers I´d like to visit during the day - is this possible? You can set a final destination as well as up to five waypoints. These waypoints can be your customers and you can input them with Alpine´s latest software version in any kind of order and optimize them afterwards automatically, helping you to save mileage, fuel and time!
But what about selecting a restaurant or hotel - how do I get the telephone number to check vacancy or a table? Main CD-ROM data are linked with additional information - like telephone numbers of hotels, restaurants etc.!

Conclusion

Large memory bank with 100 memory points plus warning and avoid points for easy personalization!

Additional data can be saved with memory such as telephone numbers, icons etc.!

Up to five waypoints can be set enabling a route calculation considering up to five stop-overs when doing for example sightseeing or visiting clients!

Main CD-ROM data includes telephone numbers when point is selected so that for example vacancy in a hotel can immediately be checked!

GPS - Global Positioning System

Question

Answer
GPS is sad not to be very precise and also if buildings are very high or the car is in a tunnel, there is no GPS-reception - is the Car Navi useless under these conditions? Alpine´s Car Navi uses GPS for receiving absolute position data, however, it is using an integrated navigation consisting of GPS signals, speed pulse signals coming from the car and a built-in gyroscope. Even without GPS, a coupled navigation of speed pulse data with gyro sensor angle motion data would be highly accurate - and by integrating all three component-data a very high accuracy can be achieved compared to the exclusive usage of GPS-data only!
I heard that it is necessary to install speed pulse sensors on the car wheel - this is very inconvenient if I want to change the tyres and wheels in summer and winter! Do I also need to exchange the wheel sensors? Speed pulse data are picked up electronically from the vehicle - either from the engine control unit or the speedmeter. No wheel sensors are required! All Alpine Car Navi dealers have a Speed Pulse Manual informing about the exact speed-pulse location for hassle-free installation!
I do not like to have the GPS antenna visibly installed in the car or even outside - it looks ugly and everyone can see that I have navigation built in...also the thiefs! Alpine´s GPS receiver and antenna are ultra-sensitive and it is possible to install the antenna on the dashboard or in a lot of cases even under a plastic or ABS dashboard!

Conclusion

Integrated coupled navigation with GPS data, speed pulse data and gyroscope angle-motion data delivers reliable position information even under severe traffic and reception conditions like in tunnels or between high buildings!

Electronic pickup of speed pulse data and magnetic field resistant built-in piezo-electric gyro sensor for very high accuracy and easy installation!

Ultra-sensitive GPS receiver and GPS antenna for inside mounting or even under dashboard mounting!

Brand Reputation and Press...

Question

Answer
I have a strange feeling about Japanes makers in Europe...this is also why I would never buy a Japanese car...! I may not enter into the dispute about the quality of Japanese cars, however speaking about Alpine, you should consider that Alpine is a brand with worldwide long experience in car navigation. 15 years of Know How and the 6th generation currently offered in the market should make you feel confident enough to purchase a product from the most likely most advanced innovation leader.
But when I remember advertising in newspaper I very often see other brands advertising their navigation systems but almost never Alpine doing so! Alpine supports its authorized Car Navi dealers with various tools and an excellent technical support. Also, Alpine is very much interested in convincing its dealers with pure facts (and thus the consumer) that Alpine Car Navi is the best choice. This is why the consumer can rely on the experience and the judgment of the Car Navi dealer who has tried most of the existing systems in the market before!
What happens if Alpine´s Car Navi is compared in a test with other navigation systems? Alpine has won numerous tests and test comparisons and has achieved europeanwide the largest amount of positive reviews in the press! And for this year, Alpine´s Car Navi has been elected as the European Product of the Year 1998!

Conclusion

Alpine has worldwide more than 15 years experience in car navigation and is one of the most advanced and innovative technology leaders in this field!

Alpine is investing a lot of efforts in prooving to its Car Navi dealers that Alpine´s Car Navi is one of the most advanced systems in the market, giving him again the confidence to recommend it to all end consumers!

Like for Car Audio, Alpine´s Car Navi is winning numerous tests and reviews and has been elected by the ECAP group (consisting of the leading European Car Audio magazines) as „The European Car Navigation System of the Year 1998“!
